The Power of Now, by Eckhart Tolle
Some copies available at the Austin Public Library, including 1 electronic copy and a couple in Spanish
Check out synopsis and reviews on Amazon. There's quite a mixed bag! If this book is not your cup of tea, feel free to come to book club and gab anyway. Read as much as your "intestinal fortitude" can take, and bring your opinions on the book/topic/new age.
Place: Chateau Dev'reaux
Time: 7:30-9:30 (discussion starts no earlier than 8 : )
Some of you might be working on the Control of Nature. I started that also but had a special request to move this book up. That's right, special requests work! So feel free to still contact me with your ideas for books.
The rest of the list is in the google spreadsheet. Lots of good suggestions. Remember to check out the library page of the spreadsheet for other books that people are reading.

Looking for a wrap up of The Power of Now?
We had a lively discussion of differing philosophical opinions and a German impersonation of a leprechaun. Lovely!
Only a couple of us got through the whole book. One opinion thought the first four chapters were the most helpful. The end of the book got very metaphysical while maintaining a bass drum beat of the book's theme: Stay in the present moment. When things start feeling out of control, meditate on the source of all your energy, your Being, and know that it pervades and surpasses anything in this world.
If you've read eastern philosophies, Christian mysticism, or A Course in Miracles, you will recognize commonalities with Tolle's outlook. That's not to say that a different perspective on the same idea can't be enlightening too.
Interesting comment: In Spook, the focus was on scientific method studying the supernatural. In PON, the focus was on chucking the scientific method and believing in your connection with the supernatural (which, ironically, is the only thing that's real).
Side note: Colleen seems to recall a book like this one, that some people like better, but by another author. Perhaps if we each ask her for the name of the author or book, we can jog her memory : >
