Spook - March 20 Meeting

Spook: Science Tackles the Afterlife, by Mary Roach
8 copies available at Austin Public Library

Check out synopsis and reviews on Amazon.

Place: Chateau Dev'reaux
Time: 7-9 (discussion starts no earlier than 7:30 : )

It was tough coming up with a first book, so I took someone's suggestion of a random number generator, and tempered that with books that are readily available at the library and could be read in a short month. Spook came out on top!

The rest of the list is in the google spreadsheet. This was tough! Lots of good suggestions. Remember to check out the library page of the spreadsheet for other books that people are reading.

Okay. I just realized that this is Holy Thursday and that some folks might be going to service this evening. If that's the case, I can push it up to March 19, Wednesday. Let me know!

Wednesday works for both Brian and I. Looking forward to it!

Five of us were able to make the first meeting. Not everyone finished the book by that night (including yours truly) but we'd all read enough to have opinions. Lovely!
One summary proclaimed it as "A Maxim writer looks at science." Most folks enjoyed some aspect of the book and writing style of Mary Roach. The Coast to Coast AM junkies (including yours truly) were a little disappointed with the lack of coverage of non-goofy, modern day investigations of ghosts, but the stories were still entertaining.
