Calling all Chickendogs and Dragonrats!

Did you know that this year is the Year of the Rat? I didn't until just a few minutes ago, but it inspired me to revive the Chickendogs and Dragonrats Society.

So in keeping with that momentum, I'd like to start up a book club. (I know. Exciting, isn't it? : )

As a first pass, I'm going to suggest meeting on the second Thursday of each month starting at 7:30pm. I'll be happy to host each time, but we can also move the meetings around so folks can sharing the driving (and cleaning up).

I know it's hard to get a night when folks can meet up on a regular basis, and finding time to read is tough! So I thought we could put a synopsis of the books we read up on this blog and then folks could leave comments on what they thought about it. That way, if you have to miss a monthly meeting, you can still feel connected. We can also post the time and location in case they change.

First order of business we have to deal with is the fact that the second Thursday of February happens to be Valentine's day. This isn't a problem for me as hanging out with friends is a great way to spend the evening, but if folks want to move the first meeting to the first Thursday (Feb 7) that'd be alright with me. I don't imagine reading a book by then (I am a slow reader) but we can meet up and decide on books we want to read for future meetings.

Second order of business is deciding what books to read. I'd like to set the theme of this year's book club to "Inspiration." I'll let you all loosely define what that means (fiction, educational, non-fiction...), but basically, I don't want to feel crappy when I'm done reading the book. : >

Third order of business is to start working the Chickdog Dragonrat Library. Apparently some of you folks out there are over-achievers when it comes to the world of reading, and I don't want to hold you back. So, I've shared this spreadsheet where you can list the books you have or recommend to share. At meetings you can bring a book or two to share. In any case, books that you are willing loan out should be written up in the spreadsheet.
